Lollipop Mockup

I created a quick mock-up of the ice lolly that failed to be dipped just so I could see how the final might look, I photoshopped out the fingers to allow me to place it anywhere.

I really like the sharpness of the edges, even if they are edited heavily, It's a very aesthetically pleasing ice lolly, even if it has a brutalist design. It's simplicity is what makes it.

Slab: Making a lolly

Now that i've got my mould, I thought I'd test it out and make a lolly.

Grace created some foil printed sticks from the pieces of wood I had cut – Some of these are hit and miss but It was a shot in the dark anyway trying to get the sticks foiled. However, I tried to make them better by lightly shaving the wood with a scalpel. This worked really well to get rid of all the messy bits.

I created a strawberry lolly because I had some strawberries to spare, I think next time it'd be ideal in creating

BRIEF: Making the Mould

This was the first time I had experienced the ceramics workshop, I really enjoyed my self in here because It reminded me of being a child again. I've really missed getting hands on with material like this.

This is £6 of silicone, wasted.

Profile: 23rd March Progress

I've struggled with trying to get the joker to fit in with the rest of the series. I don't know if it's just me being hung up on making him look like the previous characters or if he should be like he is and stand out from the rest. The problem I have with the joker is getting his chin and nose to work with the grid of the other characters.

okay.

Unlike batman who is more geometrically shaped fits a lot better with the rest and rightly so when the major features of him are his horns, chin, eyes and nose which are all very angular. However, the joker is more curvy in his features. Although the Futurama character have very circular features, it's the in-between which is hard.

I feel like this brief has being stunted, characters from the Simpsons fit into it, however this is something that will be expanded upon when I have more free time to focus on something more personal such as this.

This will come with developments to create a grid that will apply to more than just geometric characters so not limit my self. However, I have other briefs to get on with for the time been which are more important and productive.

HSC_MAP: 20th March

I finished the map off by aligning all the copy and the buildings, leaving enough room around the edge. As well as leaving equal amounts of room between the label and the copy.

Yorkshire Tea – Board Progress

We've have been trying to create a sense of rhythm throughout the boards to help pace it, It is almost there now, we just need to add in the last few extra details. The images look really good at full bleed.

Golden Ratio – Slab

The ratio and design for the rectangle for Slab comes from the golden ratio – as seen below, the depth of the rectangle comes from the smallest segment, while the largest the whole. The idea here was that the chocolate if it was on a ice lolly, would be dipped to rough 1.3 mark to be in keeping with the ratio. This was applied to all elements of the design, including proportion of the logo to the rectangle.

Design Publication – Initial Ideas

For the publication I've been had in mine, to best demonstrate:

My design process is all about visual engagement with the audience. The main areas of my design practice are branding and identity, art direction and illustration.

I thought it'd be a cool idea to show my methodology through a interactive book with multiple different elements such as pop-out and perforations in the form of a concertina because this would allow for binding to be significantly easier if there are time constraints, and use a three prong elastic band to hold it together.

I decided to try out some different formats by cutting up sheets of A1 to see what would feel best as a concertina. I really liked the square format, and I think this would be actually a great format, kinda of like a children's book size. Something similar to it anyway, this fits really well in the hand.

Yorkshire Tea: Mood Imagery

For the mood boards, we wanted to capture the surrounding culture and context of Yorkshire tea, as an establishing board to set the tone for the look we were wanting to create. A more modern and contemporary Yorkshire tea, not one of flat caps and dry stone walls.

Yorkshire tea mockup

From all the multiple different angles, it was possible to create a falling box mock-up. Ant put the file together, and I helped direct it as well as apply the finishing touches such as levels and placement adjustment. This was for the Impact board.
