Anona: Tote bag/ Bag for life

Using the excess fabric, I thought it'd be a good idea to make a bag. Sort of like the bag for life you can get in supermarkets, just more luxurious. The reasoning behind this was, if you're buying bread on a very regular basis. It'd make sense to have a bag specific to the shop, or it'd be an incentive over having to pay for plastic bags.

NSS BRIEF - LCA

I used artwork created for my practical aspect of dissertation, this was because I’d recently finished it and I wanted see what other applications they had. This was more of a personal experiment than how I usually undertake a brief, just to see how well they can be applied to something other than their original purpose.

I created simple posters, using their heads, I think they where really successful in my own personal aims. However, they may not have been their actual aims at fulfilling the brief set and it's target audience.

Although it was just an experiment, it was enjoyable to see how illustrations can be applied to different situations. Although I didn’t win the competition for the brief, I was really happy with the outcome on a personal level. It may not have been the most appropriate, but I believe It was the most positive.

Anona: Wood cuts

Inspired by the wood I saw in the window display at Betties, I asked my dad to cut me some wood up into slices. These are intended to be used for photography, the wood will give it that much needed rustic look when it's complemented along with a wicker basket.

I wanted pieces which had bark, thick and thin to create variety as well as just to have as options when it came to actually photographing it'd be helpful incase one isn't as good.

Sanded down the pieces really looked lovely, using the long side, I wanted to have some long slices incase I make a olive board anti-pasti, just in case I want to take it the deli route.

Varnished for that rustic look, the wood really came out nicely, it will compliment the fabric I had printed really nicely.

Anona: Apron

Using the ridiculously huge sheet of fabric I printed over the break I decided to create a apron, I had designed the apron earlier on back in December, however I hadn't the chance to print the fabric to make it yet.

I used white to sew the edging of the apron, however, I had to make white pocket from the edges of the sheet because I didn't print any plain purple fabric to make the pocket blend in. So this is the only alteration I had to make to the apron.

Anona: Printing Material

I decided to try and bring my patterns into the real world, I had prepared this one and another to print, however due to the cost I only ended up going with this option because It was one I found more aesthetically pleasing. As well as being the pattern that I created my self.

It took a long time to print...

I was really pleased with how it turned out, It looked the part. However the colour had run into the white part of the fabric which is a bit irritating but It couldn't have being helped. I'll be using this later to make things.

BRIEF 1: Anona Bakery Website Development 1

I came up with an initial idea for how the website should look, the concept here being it's similar to a blog page, where people can find out about anona, but not buy from it. It'd be more of a lifestyle blog to show where you can find a bakery and what to do with the bread and if there where any events happening relating to the company.

This concept was partially inspired by the NordicBakery website which acts in a similar way.

I'm not really too keen on how this turned out, I think it looks rather dated mostly and it's not really doing the imagery and the logo any justice.

Design Publication: Things relevant to me.

My design process is all about visual engagement with the audience. The main areas of my design practice are branding and identity, art direction and illustration.

This is my statement of intent, images that I personal like which are reflective of this are below, I wanted to demonstrate this through my influences and places I would eventually like to be employed such as Thompson Brand Partners.

NSS - Context Research

For the illustration style I'm not really too sure how I really want it to truly look yet, however I do know I want it to be something rather simplistic, simplistic enough that it still allows me to convey, emotion, narrative and the message of the moral. All the while been captivating enough for children.

The following illustrations are ones that caught my eye, in relation to these ideas of what I'm wanting to achieve when I illustrate it for my self. -

The below although really complicated due to being a paper craft uses colour really effectively as well as shadow to pull out the objects from the background paper.

I really love the expressions of the faces of the characters here, they really express a lot of emotion all the while providing very little in terms of detail. This is the sort of look I would really like to use with my illustrations. Minimal but expressing a lot.

The use of colour here is what caught my attention initially, but I really like the dirtied look around the sides of the silhouette, however I do not think it would be totally appropriate for doing this for a child's book. The bright colours maybe, however I doubt I would be able to achieve these colours through printing methods which are easily reproducible.

The below, which uses pop-up as a method to create dimension to a scene really grabs your attention with it's very eastern european use of colour and aesthetic. It is this way of illustrating that I really like the most, it's concise and best of all it is ideal for reproducing quickly.

This illustration below I found to be really enchanting, I think the use of texture really helps bring it to life, although it's not just that, the colours really work so well together, the trees especially look so good. Although I'd love to create something with such fidelity as this, I don't see it happening due to the time it would need to create something like this.
