Lollipops (Slab) Discussion with Grace (7th April)

Me and Grace today talked about what direction to now take Slab, including what deliverables we should target, and what is and isn't feasible in the time we have left.

Currently we have a logo, colour, audience (in mind), ice lolly mould (plus mockups), hot chocolate dip and a market we are aiming for. – However, while Grace is still away, I will be experimenting with how to solve the issue of the chocolate slipping off the ice and what alternatives could resolve it.

I came across these images which really helped shape the direction we want to take the deliverables. – This first image came from here. I thought it'd be a great idea if we could experiment with photography to emphasise the luxury side of chocolate branding  by using suspended liquid chocolate and other assortments of ingredients to create more dynamic and exciting photography.

The tone of voice of Slab is something we should also seriously consider, I thought it'd be a great idea to add a sense of cheekiness about it, to add some character. As well as how and where we can apply it, the side of a bag would be an excellent place - Or even the packaging and website.

And last of all - this left image is a great example of exactly what we are looking for, I'd suggested we use acrylic to emboss the chocolate when we make a mould for the Slab chocolate bar

So – As a plan for the next few weeks we intend to make the following:

Marbled Chocolate Lollies – Dip / Solid, depending on the outcome of the experiments

Marbled Chocolate Bars – These will require a new mould, as suggested above, acrylic could possibly be a good alternative to silicone because of how expensive it was to produce just one. An additional note, packaging for these is something to strongly consider, as well as how gifting.

Website

Instagram – I thought it'd be a good idea, if we were to have a social media presence, it be something that's fun. My proposal would be to get people to pose and photograph their slabs. #slab #blogging

Lolly Shop/Bar – Considering there aren't really many places in Leeds that openly sell Ice lollies, somewhere like Hotel Chocolat to get primary images to use for the 'brand' image to sell the concept more. We'd like to do this with a real location to avoid nasty mockups ruining the overall image.

Paper bag – A paper bag we thought would be a great finishing touch to the concept, it's half bar and half shop. The paper bag would be luxurious and eye catching. Blue ribbon closure, similar to Joe Malone and other high end gift paper bags. With marbled paper on the outside and blue tissue paper on the inside to wrap the product.

Business cards – Grace had the idea of creating the business cards out of the same material as the wooden sticks, because they're already rather thin so they would make for a great unique touch for the brand. This is something I'm really excited about - with the same foil as well on the front. I much prefer this to the paper alternative, it's just a lot more playful and exciting.
